Alumni Updates: Nora Bradford
Welcome back to Alumni Updates!
This time, hear from Nora Bradford:
I graduated from UChicago in 2019 with a triple major in Neuroscience (B.S.), Psychology (B.A.), and Philosophy and allied fields (B.A.). While at UChicago, I served as the president of the NEURO club, played lacrosse, volunteered as a Comer tutor, and conducted research with Dr. Leslie Kay, Dr. Christian Hansel, and others.
I then moved to Philadelphia to work as a research associate at UPenn, where I studied how children learn mathematical concepts and how adults perceive numbers. I quickly realized that I wanted to conduct research of my own, so I applied to grad school on short notice and moved away from Philly, a city I had fallen head over heels for.
Now, I'm a third-year PhD student in Cognitive Science (with a concentration in neuroscience) at UC Irvine. I study how reflection (aka metacognition) affects learning. During grad school, I've realized that what I love most about science is sharing it with the public, so I hope to transition into a career in science writing after I graduate.
As for advice, take your time! Everyone is on their own path and you have plenty of time to figure out where yours is heading.
Nora also shared a link of summer opportunities at their university for any undergrads looking for something to do this summer, so click here to check it out!
