Alumni Updates: Marina Weinberger
Welcome back to Alumni Updates!
This time, hear from Marina Weinberger::
Hey NEURO Club! I attended UChicago from 2015-2019 and graduated with a double-major in Neuroscience & Biology. I worked as a research assistant in the Awh-Vogel lab doing EEG experiments on healthy human subjects and investigated pathways of attention in the brain. I did a summer Metcalf neuro internship and my BS thesis with that lab. I was also fortunate to be in the first cohort of students to go on the Paris Neuroscience summer internship at the Collège de France, which was an awesome experience. I was in NEURO Club for 4 years and served as club secretary.
After graduating I moved to NYC and joined the Greengard Lab of Molecular Neuroscience at Rockefeller University for two gap years as a research assistant. There I was involved in projects investigating depression in mice and got to learn wet lab techniques, behavioral assays, and even mouse brain surgery!
I started medical school at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD in 2021. USUHS is one of just 3 tuition-free medical schools in the US, and I’m fortunate to actually be paid by the Navy to be a student here as well! I’m president of the AAN (American Academy of Neurology) chapter here, involved in sleep research, and also am training a service puppy! My goal is to specialize in Neurology and help service members recover from traumatic brain injuries.
